The Weeknd Crushed & Heartbroken After His Hometown Toronto Concert Postponed

The Weeknd’s first day of the Dawn FM tour is postponed due to network outrage in Canada.

The Weeknd was scheduled to kick off his “After Hours Til Dawn” tour in Toronto at the Rogers Centre (formerly known as the Skydome), but the thousands of fans left disappointed as the show was postponed. The concert was postponed due to a nationwide outage of the Rogers Wireless company, one of Canada’s biggest phone networks.

“The Weeknd was onsite and ready to play but due to the nationwide Rogers network outage, the show planned for this evening at Rogers Centre will be postponed as the venue’s operations & infrastructure are not possible until full service is back,” read a statement from Live Nation. “Please hold on to your ticket. Updates on a new date coming soon.”

After the announcement, the Starboy took to his social media to address the whole thing. “I’m crushed & heartbroken. Been at the venue all day but it’s out of my hands because of the Rogers outage,” he wrote in an Instagram Story. “Operations and safety are compromised and I tried my absolute best. This one hurts the most, and we will make this show happen, but unfortunately not tonight. I know how long you’ve been waiting and how hard a lot of you worked to make it to the show and experience this special moment with me. I can’t wait to see you all.”

“We regret to announce that The Weeknd tour stop at Rogers Centre has been postponed due to service outages impacting venue operations,” states Toronto Blue Jays twitter handle. “A new show date will be shared ASAP and tickets will be honoured. We understand how disappointing this is and apologize for the inconvenience.”

A day before the scheduled concert, Drake shouts out The Weeknd and recalls hearing him for the first time. “This right here, this little driveway area right here, this the first place I ever heard the Weeknd’s music, right here,” said Drake in a clip. “Shout out to Oliver [El-Khatib], of course my brother. Oliver played me the Weeknd right here. And it’s my old building, in Toronto. We were parked out here, and it was raining. And that same guy selling out SkyDome tomorrow night.”

He continued, “That man is selling out the SkyDome. I just want anybody that’s trying to do this shit to understand, like, I heard this man’s music right here for the first time. Pouring rain. It’s a great life.”

A statement from tour promoter Live Nation read: “The Weeknd was onsite and ready to play but due to the nationwide Rogers network outage the show planned for this evening at Rogers Centre will be postponed as the venue’s operations & infrastructure are not possible until full service is back.”
