Charlamagne Tha God Questions Drake Breaking Michael Jackson’s Billboard Record

Charlamagne Tha God Questions Drake Breaking Michael Jackson’s Billboard Record.

Charlamagne Tha God is sharing his honest opinion after Drake officially broke one of Michael Jackson’s biggest chart records.

This week, Drake’s new song “Janice STFU” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The achievement gave the Toronto rapstar his 14th number-one hit, officially passing Michael Jackson for the most No. 1 songs by a male solo artist in Hot 100 history.

While many fans celebrated the milestone online, Charlamagne Tha God said he does not believe chart numbers always tell the full story. During a recent discussion, the radio personality explained that even though Drizzy’s streaming numbers and chart success are massive, he does not think Drake’s music has had the same cultural impact as Michael Jackson’s classic albums.

“This is why I say numbers lie,” Charlamagne said. He continued by saying Drake clearly has timeless songs and huge success, but he believes projects like Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Off the Wall changed music and pop culture on a completely different level. “Does Drake have the numbers? Yes,” Charlamagne explained. “Does Drake have music that will stand the test of time? Yes. But a lot of Drake’s music doesn’t have the cultural impact of an Off the Wall or a Thriller.”

Charlamagne also suggested that some of Drake’s chart-topping songs became temporary hits instead of songs that fully shaped culture for decades.

Even with the criticism, he admitted that earning 14 No. 1 hits is still a huge accomplishment and proves how popular Drake remains around the world.

The comments quickly sparked debates across social media. Some users online agreed with Charlamagne and argued that Michael Jackson’s influence on music, dance, fashion, and entertainment is unmatched. Others defended Drizzy by pointing to his dominance over the streaming era and his ability to constantly break Billboard records year after year.

Six God is currently in the middle of one of the biggest commercial runs of his career thanks to the success of ICEMAN. Along with “Janice STFU” going No. 1, Drake also recently broke the record for most simultaneous entries on the Billboard Hot 100 after charting 42 songs in one week. His albums ICEMAN, HABIBTI, and MAID OF HONOUR also debuted at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, making more music history in the process.

As for Charlamagne Tha God, fans know he has never been afraid to speak honestly about Drake, even during the rapper’s biggest moments.
