Doja Cat, Drake & Ari Lennox Dominates BET Awards 2022 Nominations

BET Awards announces nominations for the 2022 Awards ceremony.

BET Awards is returning for their 2022 event which will take place later this month on June 27th, and will air live on BET at 8 pm ET/ PT from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, and will be hosted by Taraji P. Henson.

BET has now announced the nominees in different categories for this year, and Doja Cat dominated the list with 6 nominations. She’s nominated in “Best Female R&B/Pop Artist,” “Best Female Hip Hop Artist,” “Album of the Year,” for her album ‘Planet Her‘, “BET Her” for Woman, “Video of the Year” for ‘Kiss Me More‘ with SZA, and “Best Collaboration,” for the same track.

Ari Lennox and Drake follow Doja Cat with second-most nominations, in four categories each. The Toronto rap star was nominated for “Best Male Hip Hop Artist,” “Best Collaboration” for ‘Way 2 Sexy‘ with Future and Young Thug, “Video of the Year” for the same song, and “Album of the Year” for his last year’s ‘Certified Lover Boy‘ album.

Kanye West, Lil Baby, Kendrick Lamar, Baby Keem, Silk Sonic, Future, H.E.R., Jazmine Sullivan, Mary J. Blige, Chloe and Tems are the third-highest nominated artist with three nominations each.

“Big Energy” rapper Latto hopped on Twitter to share her excitement about being recognized for her hard work saying, “I’m nominated for 2 BET awards!!!!!!”

“King Richard” received five nominations, including best picture, as well as best actor and actress nominations for leads Will Smith and Aunjanue Ellis and YoungStars Award nominations for Demi Singleton and Saniyya Sidney. Zendaya (nominated for best actress for both “Euphoria” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home”) and Forest Whitaker (nominated for “Respect” and “Godfather of Harlem”) are two more prominent nominees in cinema and television categories. ABC’s “Black-ish” and Peacock’s “Bel-Air” each received three nods for their last and debut seasons, respectively; Issa Rae and Quinta Brunson were both nominated for best actress for their roles in “Insecure’s” final season and “Abbot Elementary’s” breakout year, respectively.

The award show’s artists who will perform are yet to be confirmed. Last year’s program featured a tribute performance by Rapsody, Monie Love, Lil’ Kim, and MC Lyte, as well as a lifetime achievement award for Queen Latifah. BET has yet to name a recipient for the prestigious award.
