Lil Nas X Takes Shots At BET After Zero Award Nominations Black Excellence

Lil Nas X is not happy after BET Award Nominations were announced.

Earlier today, the BET announced the star-studded nominations for their this year’s Awards, which features the likes of Doja Cat, Drake, Kanye West and more. Lil Nas X, who had a successful last year, thanks to his hit songs like “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)“, “Industry Baby” with Jack Harlow and others, received zero nominations for the 2022 BET Awards.

The “Old Town Road” hitmaker took to his social media and shades the BET in deleted tweets. “thank you bet awards. an outstanding zero nominations again. black excellence!,” he wrote in one of his posts. “idk maybe 3 of the biggest songs of last year & a critically acclaimed album,” he said in response to a user who asked what did he put out. “feel like that should’ve helped me a bit … not even that, doesn’t even have to be me nominated. I just feel like black gay ppl have to fight to be seen in this world and even when we make it to the top mfs try to presented we are invisible.”

Fans noticed that Harlow, who received his first No. 1 single with “Industry Baby,” received a nomination for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, and they immediately called out BET. “Jack Harlow got a BET award nom and Lil Nas X didn’t? During pride month? During Black Music History month? Is that what I’m seeing?,” said Twitter user @Tendurag.

In this year’s nominations, Doja Cat leads the pack with the most 6 nods, followed by Drake and Ari Lennox with 4 nominations each.

In September 2021, he had three tracks from his first album “Montero” rank in the Billboard Top 10 — “Industry Baby,” “Montero (Call Me by Your Name),” and “That’s What I Want” — and eight more in the Hot 100. Five Grammy nominations followed for the record.

In June 2019, a week after singing “Old Town Road” with Billy Ray Cyrus at that year’s BET Awards, the rapper came out as gay, and was nominated for a Best New Artist BET Award in 2020.

Despite not being nominated for any awards, he did appear at the 2021 show. In 2020, he was nominated for Best New Artist but lost out to Roddy Ricch.
