DaBaby Says His New Album With NBA Youngboy Was Made In 2 Days & They Got Paid $2.5 Million

DaBaby boasts about his new album with NBA Youngboy.

After a series of collaborations, DaBaby and NBA Youngboy teamed up last week for a brand joint album called “Better Than You“. The project was released on the same day as of late King Von’s “What It Means To Be A King“, and is expected to debut on #2 on Billboard 200. According to HDD, “Better Than You” will move around 25-30k copies in the first week, while King Von’s posthumous project will top with 60-65k.

While it’s a low number considering the popularity of NBA Youngboy, it’s still good for something that is made in a couple of days. DaBaby took to his social media and reveals that the album was made in 2 days, and they got paid $2.5 million. “Y’all keep running up that mixtape me & YB made in 2 days & got $2.5 million for that got these ni**as in a Frenzy. Relax [laughing emoji],” he wrote.

When asked how the project came together by the experienced DJ, DaBaby stated that the Baton Rouge, Louisiana rapper was the one who approached him about doing a collaboration. He goes on to add that Better Than You is the finest collaborative effort since Kanye West and Jay-legendary Z’s album Watch The Throne in 2011. “When you talk about music and a body of work, ain’t been no collab project that’s f**kin around with that since probably.. you gotta go back to Watch The Throne, Jay-Z & Kanye type sh*t,” he said.

The rapper has been on the promo run for the new album, and the other day he made a visit to The Breakfast Club where he discussed his last year’s Rolling Loud controversy, love for Lizzo, working with Kanye West, and more.

During an interview with The Rap Pack in April 2020, DaBaby expressed his admiration for NBA YoungBoy. “I like NBA YoungBoy a lot,” he said. “He just turned 20. I know he don’t get the credit he deserves for his music because of the stigma that’s surrounding him. He’s like crazy talented. After my music, I probably like his music the most, just because of his story and how he puts it out there. How shameless he is with putting it out there and the type of music that he continues to make.”

In the time leading up to their collaboration on Better Than You, DaBaby and YoungBoy were both quite busy. YB released his Colors mixtape last month and has been hyping the release of Realer 2, his upcoming mixtape. The tape eventually made its Billboard 200 albums chart début at No. 2. He also got involved in a spat with Lil Durk, releasing the diss song “I Hate YoungBoy,” in which the rapper targeted Boosie, Gucci Mane, Apple Music, and other musicians and media outlets.

On Monday, OTF affiliate Memo600 tweeted, “CAN’T BLAME DABABY HE THOUGHT THAT MAN WAS GNE SAVE HIS CAREER.” DaBaby eventually responded to Memo with a lengthy statement, stating that he would not engage in internet feuds and that he is uninterested in YoungBoy’s current conflict.
