BET Hip-Hop Awards 2022 Winners Kendrick Lamar Dominates With 6 Wins

Kendrick Lamar wins big at the 2022 BET Hip-Hop Awards.

This year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards, which took place a few days ago in Atlanta, was aired earlier tonight. The Show was attended by some of the biggest names in rap and was hosted by Fat Joe.

As announced previously, Drake and Kanye West lead the nominations this year with 14 and 10 nods respectively. Kendrick Lamar, who dropped his final TDE album “Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers” this year, was recognized in 9 categories.

The 2022 BET Hip-Hop Awards was dominated by Kendrick Lamar, as he took home 6 trophies. The Compton rapper won the awards for “Artist of the Year,” “Lyricist of the Year,” “Best Live Performer”, and the “Album of the Year” for his latest effort “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers”. He also won awards for “Best Hip Hop Video” for “Family Ties” with Baby Keem, and “Video Director of the Year” with Dave Free.

Drake, who was the most nominated artist this year, took home three awards. The Toronto rapper won “Best Collaboration” for “Wait For U” with Future and Tems, “Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse” for “Wait For U” and Jack Harlow’s “Churchill Downs“.

Trina was also honored at the event with “I Am Hip Hop” award. “First and foremost, god made this possible. Thank you to my beautiful mother, without you, Trina would not exist,” she said in her speech. “Thank you to BET for continuing to be a platform that heightens our culture and for giving me my flowers while I am here! I am speechless and humbled yet honored to accept the “I Am Hip Hop” Award. Thank you to all of the amazing artists that took time out to support and collaborate over the years. To all the women, working behind the scenes or in front of the cameras. When one wins, we all win.”

Impact track went to Lizzo’s “About Damn Time,” which peaked the Hot 100 for 2 weeks in July and August. This award is given to the song that “moves our society ahead through social criticism, political dialogue, or other thought-provoking lyrics.”
