Cordae Reveals That Eminem Asked Him To Re-Do His Verse For Killer Remix

Cordae details the story behind his recent collaborations with Eminem.

Cordae is currently on the promo run for his new album “From A Bird’s Eye View” as the rapper made a visit to Bootleg Kev Podcast for a new interview. During the interview, the host asked the North Carolina rapper about his collaborations with Eminem and how he connected with him.

“Right before I did the “Killer” Remix with him, We had an hour and a half conversation about life, about music and hip-hop,” said Cordae. “He has always been showing me genuine love and support very early on and I appreciate all love and public support I get because It’s not like I’m not signed to him, so he does not have to do that. I don’t feel entitled for anybody to show me any type of love so any genuine love and support I get publicly, from fellow peers, fellow artists, I really appreciate that.”

He continues, “So, he was showing me a lot of love publicly, we had a dope conversation. He was like man we got to just get some work in. We probably had that convo in June 2020, and I didn’t sent him the record for him to get on until like February 2021. Because I was just like I was trying to find a song for him but I was like, ‘yo, this is Eminem bro, it’s been like 10 months since he told me he got me with a record. I’m like let me just f**kin get this sh*t, not waste that opportunity.

Cordae was then asked if he get intimidated to get on that remix, to write harder. “Nah, You know what, I did my first verse for ‘Killer (Remix).’ I sent it over to him and I did it more like Andre 3000, E-40 type of flow and then Em called and he was like ‘Yo, I wanted you to be a little more lyrical. Do some rap-rap sh*t on it. I’m like ‘alright cool, whatever’ so he had me re-do my verse on some more rap because at first, I thought that song was not for rap-rap, it’s more like a vibe sort of thing and that’s why I gave that, he was like ‘I want you to attack it’ and I’m like ‘alright, cool, let’s try that.’”

“If Eminem asks you to re-do your verse, you re-do your verse,” says Bootleg. “Yeah, sure,” responds Cordae.

Cordae already mentioned this tale in another interview, but this time he disclosed a significant lapse in time between the chat with Eminem and actually giving him a verse for a collaboration: He was shouting me out in a bunch of interviews, like “I rock with bro”. To hear that from Eminem was some cool sh*t. That’s some fly sh*t. He ended up calling me. We talked for like an hour and a half. It was probably mid pandemic. We were just chopping up about life, hip hop, rap, everything for two hours. And he was like, “Yo, we gotta get some work in and get some music done”. And you know what? That was like June 2020, and I didn’t even send him a song to like April 2021. It’s been a year since we talked. I was like, “Let me just get this verse out of bro”. I sent them “Parables”, and boom, that’s how it came about.”

This young and gifted rapper is humble, down-to-earth, and nothing near as pushy as many of his contemporaries. Nonetheless, he’s never missed a shot because he lets his music speak for itself.

This is precisely what occurred with him and Dr. Dre, when their unexpected connection in Dre’s studio piqued everyone’s interest. Cordae told Ebro on the Morning Show the story behind their photos together: That was three years ago. Shout out to big bro. And I connected with Dre through Anderson. Paak. I was in the studio with Anderson. Paak, honestly, and Dr. Dre just walked in that joint. I was just talking to Dre, and he was like, “Man, I wanna hear how your music sounds like ‘cause you look like crazy ni**a”. And about a week or two later, he called me and was like, “Yo, pull up to the studio”.
