Will Smith Issues Public Apology To Chris Rock For Slapping Him At Oscars 2022

Will Smith apologizes to Chris Rock & The Academy for his behaviour at the Oscars 2022.

Will Smith finally won his first-ever Oscar, as he was awarded the Best Actor honour at the 94th Academy Awards show for the Williams sister’s movie “King Richard”. However, the actor made headlines for one other specific reason, as he slapped the comedian Chris Rock at the ceremony for joking about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

Even though Smith showed regret for his actions during the award-winning speech at the event, the Actor now issues a public apology to Chris Rock & The Academy through his social media. “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive,” he wrote. “My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.”

He continues, “I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”

“I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us. I am a work in progress.”

Despite carrying out one of the most memorable events in Oscar history, Smith attended the Vanity Fair party with his family and danced the night away. With his wife, Jada, and his children, Willow and Jaden, the Academy Award-winning actor was spotted dancing and rapping along to his 1990s singles “Summertime,” “Miami,” and “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It.”
