Paul Rosenberg Reveals Eminem Started Listing Over 100 Musical Influences 10 Days Prior To Hall Of Fame Ceremony

Paul Rosenberg reflects on Eminem’s Hall of Fame speech.

Earlier this month, Eminem was inducted into the prestigious Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, and the ceremony was finally telecasted on HBO a couple of days back. The Detroit rapper put out a six-song performance at the event and made a special speech where he shouted out over 100 of his musical influences.

Speaking to The Detroit News, rapper’s longtime manager Paul Rosenberg shares some details behind the speech, and revealed that Em started listing the names 10 days prior to the November 5h ceremony. “We never started off by saying let’s limit it to X number, because we knew that would become a struggle: How can I fit this person and not this person?” said Rosenberg. “So we just said go for it, come up with a list, and we’ll see what it looks like.”

Rosenberg said that the initial list was of around 75 artists “and then he kept adding to it.” “And nobody felt like telling him no, because it was so genuine, and so from his heart. He really meant what he said,” Rosenberg added.”So we just said, hey, you know what? It is what it is. This is your moment, and if this is the way you want to spend it, you have the right to do it. So do it.”

Eminem’s management is among the first to admit that the rap isn’t precisely rock n’ roll by description, but that he merits his imminent induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “In the traditional sense does Marshall [Mathers] do rock n’ roll? Of course not,” says Paul Rosenberg of Goliath Artists, who met Eminem in 1995 at Detroit’s famed Hip Hop Shop and began managing him shortly thereafter. “But I think if you look at what rock n’ roll came from and what hip-hop was created from, they stem from the same musical roots, the same musical tree — but at the same time very different in style, form, culture. If you think about those aspects and just the emotion, and then you combine that with how many rappers there already are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I would say that he certainly fits.”
