Lupe Fiasco Announces That He Will Be Teaching Rap At MIT

Lupe Fiasco to teach a course on rap at MIT.

Lupe Fiasco is one of the top lyricists in the rap game, and he’s now will be sharing his knowledge about hip-hop to students. The Chicago rapper took to his social media to announce that he will teach rap at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

“I been holding this for a while. I’ll put together something more sophisticated later that really captures the nuance and gravity but for now I’ll just say it straight and raw: I’m going to teach Rap at @MIT,” he wrote.

One of the fans responded and said that teaching rap would a “useless” degree. Fiasco responded in a since-deleted tweet, according to HipHopDX. “Syllabus isn’t built yet but I’m thinking its fruit to be had in looking at neuromorphic computation through the lens of Rap as a lossless data compression model with a dash of energy efficiency via refining Landauer’s principle applied to cytoarchitectonics. And some rapping…”

The news comes after Lupe Fiasco’s recent announcement of his next studio album. The rapper revealed that his new album is titled “Drill Music In Zion” and it will release on June 24th.

Lupe previously co-led the school’s “Code Cypher” programming competition, teaching rapping cyphers in a “computational style” with Professor of Digital Media Nick Montfort. He has previously stated that MIT is where “nerds are born” and where “nerds go to be among the other nerds” in order to “allow them into the field of nerds.”

Fiasco has already released the lead song “Autoboto” featuring Nayirah and declared it to be his own Illmatic, and the project’s engineer Craig Bauer has termed it the finest rap album of the previous decade. “The new @lupefiasco record is Rap Album of the Year,” Bauer stated in his Instagram Story. “Nah. Decade. If you don’t feel anything after listening to this, you should check your pulse.”
