Gunna's DS4EVR Beats The Weeknd's Dawn FM To Earn #1 Debut on Billboard 200

Gunna tops The Weeknd on Billboard Charts.

The Weeknd and Gunna both released their latest albums “Dawn FM” and “DS4EVER” on January 7th, and as per the popularity, the “After Hours” hitmaker predicted to have a strong week on the charts. However, the final numbers are in, and Gunna has pulled off an upset as his album “Drip Season 4” album topped the Billboard 200 by beating The Weeknd’s latest offering.

The Georgia rapper earned his second consecutive number 1 debut on Billboard 200 after “Wunna” and denied The Weeknd getting his 5th #1 Billboard 200 debut. According to Billboard, “DS4EVER” earned 150,300 equivalent album units in the first week, which includes 144,600 streaming equivalent album units (equaling 193.5 million on-demand official streams), and album sales comprise 4,700 and track equivalent units comprise 1,000.

On September 24, 2021, the album’s debut single, “Too Easy,” a duet with fellow American rapper Future, was released. On December 3, 2021, the remix, which contains a guest appearance by fellow American rapper Roddy Ricch, was published. The remix’s music video was released on January 7, 2022. “Too Easy” peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States.

The Weeknd’s “Dawn FM” earned 1,48,000 equivalent album units in the first week, which includes 131,300 streaming equivalent album units (equaling 173.04 million on-demand official streams), and album sales comprise 14,800 and track equivalent units comprise 1,900.

“In partnership with Billboard, data deemed suspicious and unverifiable is disqualified prior to the final calculation. This can cause delays in publishing,” a statement reads after the delay in this week’s album chart.

The chart duel provided some excitement during a traditionally quiet period on the charts, as few blockbuster albums are released in January. Although the blockbuster soundtrack for Disney’s Encanto achieved a new peak of No. 3, no other albums debuted in the top 10. Check out next week’s chart to see whether Gunna’s Drip Season can truly go that long.

Meanwhile, Doja Cat’s “Planet Her” becomes the first album by a female rapper to spend 6 months in the top 10 on Billboard 200 history.
