Doja Cat Topple Drake To Become Rapper with Most Monthly Listeners on Spotify

Doja Cat is now the rapper with the most monthly listeners on Spotify.

Doja Cat now tops the rapper’s list on the music streaming platform Spotify. According to the latest number, Doja Cat has surpassed the Toronto rap star Drake, to become the rapper with the most monthly listeners on the Spotify streaming service. The 25-year-old’s monthly listeners on Spotify has grown to 63.69 million, which is slightly more than Drake, who currently has 63.3 million. In the rapper’s list, Drake is currently in the third position, as the “Montero” rapper Lil Nas X also surpassed him with 63.62 million monthly listeners.

All three artists recently released their new albums “Certified Lover Boy“, “MONTERO” and “Planet Her“. Planet Her, Doja’s third studio album, was released in late June and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Young Thug, The Weeknd, SZA, J.I.D, and Ariana Grande all contributed to the project. “Kiss Me More,” her collaboration with SZA, was ranked No. 2 on Spotify’s Top U.S. Songs of Summer 2021 and No. 5 on Spotify’s Top Global Songs of Summer 2021, respectively.

While Drizzy’s album debuted at #1 on Billboard with the highest first-week sales of this year, the other two earned a number 2 spot on the charts. Drake’s latest album, Certified Lover Boy, opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and stayed there for three weeks in a row, edging off Nas X’s debut studio album, Montero, which arrived at No. 2 in late September.

In the overall musician list, Justin Bieber currently holds the top spot with 85.2 million monthly listeners, followed by Ed Sheeran with 75 million, and The Weeknd at third with 68.5 million.

This is the first time such statistics have been attained by any artist over the same time period. Ariana Grande previously held the record with 82 million streaming in a single month. Despite having the most monthly listeners, Bad Bunny had the highest streaming year in Spotify ever, with 10.1 billion streams in 2021.

Drake previously held the record for most monthly streams among rappers, owing in part to his newest album “Certified Lover Boy”, which debuted on September 3 and became Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day. Drake became the first artist in history to reach 50 billion Spotify streams across all of his credited tracks in January. With 40 top 10 singles, seven of which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, he was also voted the most-streamed musician of the decade.

Doja Cat commended SZA as the pair accepted an award for their duet ‘Kiss Me More’ at the Grammys 2022 tonight (April 3).

BTS, Coldplay, Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco, as well as Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, were nominated for the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance in 2021.
