DJ Akademiks Claims That Young Thug Isn't A Big Dawg In Hip-Hop

DJ Akademiks says Young Thug isn’t a big dawg in Rap Music.

Last week, Young Thug released his new solo studio album “PUNK” which featured star-studded appearances from Drake, Future, Gunna, Travis Scott, J. Cole, Doja Cat, Post Malone, ASAP Rocky, and more. The first-week projections are here that states that the project is fighting with Drake’s latest album for a #1 Spot on Billboard 200. According to reports, the album will move around 80-85k and is facing competition from “Certified Lover Boy” which is its 7th week.

The numbers are a huge decline from Young Thug’s debut album “So Much Fun” which sold 131k in the first week to get the top spot on the charts. Even his recent YSL compilation album “Slime Language 2” sold 113k in the first week.

DJ Akademiks, who previously called Meek Mill’s latest album “Expensive Pain” a flop, now says that Young Thug isn’t an A-List rapper, but still a legend. “I understand why hella rappers ducked Drake release date and delayed their albums cuz of him… if he’s competing with young thug first week sales in his 7th week… it don’t make no f**kin sense,” he wrote.

In its first week, Young Thug’s debut album So Much Fun debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, selling 131,000 copies. Slime Language 2, Thug’s YSL Records collective’s second album, also debuted at #1 with 113,000 album units sold in its first week. Thug’s popularity waned with Punk, with sales plummeting by around 30,000 units since SL2. As a result, Ak claims that Thug doesn’t have the clout that his admirers believe he possesses.

Btw I’m honest as I said .. any artist who don’t sell 100K ain’t a big dawg! Even thug. I look at thug as an exec tryna push YSL than consider his solo efforts sort of where Rick Ross was at when he started pushing MMG more than his own music. Thug still a legend but #s don’t lie,” Akademiks states in another tweet.

Online jail records show that Young Thug was detained in Georgia on gang-related allegations on Monday afternoon.

The “Go Crazy” rapper is charged with participating in illegal street gang activities and conspiring to break the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. The RICO act allegation stems from an alleged violation in January 2013, while the accusation for gang participation stems from an alleged event in May 2018, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Following a May 9 search on his Buckhead, Georgia residence, Atlanta police additionally charged Young Thug with other offences, according to documents from the Fulton County Jail. These charges include “Possession Of Sawed-Off Shotgun, Sawed-Off Rifle, Machine Gun, Dangerous Weapon, Or Silencer,” as well as a number of other counts involving gang activity. They also include “Possession Of Marijuana With Intent To Distribute,” “Possession Of A Controlled Substance With Intent To Distribute,” and “Possession Of Sawed-Off Shotgun.”

The rapper was refused bond after the prosecution emphasized Thug’s capacity to abscond and threatened the witnesses in the case. The prosecutors also reference witnesses who are YSL members as “proffers” that Thug is the organization’s head.

Prosecutors also utilized lyrics from Thug’s “So Much Fun” song “Just How It Is” to establish that the artist could not be released on bond during the hearing. The following lines were read aloud from the song:
“Ask the cops, ask the detectives, they know all the business/Ask the cops and the detectives, all the jurisdictions/Ask the kids at school who ambition all the missions/Gave the lawyer close to two mil’, he handle all the killings.”
