8 People Died & Many Injured At Travis Scott's Astroworld Fest 2021

Astroworld 2021 Saturday’s show is canceled after multiple deaths on the first day.

Travis Scott has kicked off his Astroworld 2021 Festival with around 50,000 sold our crowd on Friday at NRG Park in Houston, Texas. The opening day was a star-studded spectacle, with guest appearances from Drake, SZA, Don Toliver, Roddy Ricch, Metro Boomin, and more.

But the reports are coming in that the concert has now been canceled after at least eight people were confirmed dead due to a crowd surge on Friday. HFD Chief Sam Pena stated that at around 9 or 9:15, the crowd started to compress toward the front stage of the NRG Park, which caused panic and several people got injured. At least 17 people were transported to hospitals, including 11 with cardiac arrest. Additionally, more than 300 people were treated throughout the day at an on-site field hospital.

“It seems like it happened with just over the course of a few minutes, suddenly we had several people down on the ground experiencing some type of cardiac arrest or some type of medical episode,” Sam Pena said. “We immediately started doing CPR.”

“Our hearts are broken,” Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo said. “People go to these events looking for a good time, a chance to unwind, to make memories. People go to these events looking for a good time, a chance to unwind, to make memories — it’s not the kind of event you go to where you expect to find out about fatalities.”

‘As officials stated earlier in their news conference, they are investigating a series of cardiac arrests that occurred.’ Please contact @HoustonPolice if you have any pertinent information about this. ‘We appreciate the reaction and support of our Houston Police Department, Fire Department, and NRG Park partners.’

As of early Saturday morning, it was unknown what caused the injuries or how many individuals were hurt, but officials reported that many people were in need of medical assistance on the site. According to Houston Fire Chief Samuel Pea, the incident began at 9:15 p.m. on Friday. He told reporters: ‘The crowd began to compress toward the front of the stage, and people began to panic.’
