2022 Grammy Awards Nominations Drake, J. Cole, Kanye West, Nas & More

The Grammys announces nominations for the 2022 event.

The nominations for next year’s Grammy event has been announced by the Recording Academy through a Livestream from Los Angeles. The Livestream features Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. and Board of Trustees Chair Tammy Hurt along with some other guests.

Jon Batiste has received the most nominations of any artist with 11, followed by Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, and H.E.R. with 8, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo with 7, and Jon Batiste with 11.

During the ceremony in the Crypto.Com Arena in Los Angeles, the winners will be revealed. On January 31 at 8 p.m. ET, the ceremony will be live-streamed on CBS and on the Paramount+ app for viewers at home.

The latest project from J. Cole, Drake, Nas, Tyler, The Creator and Kanye West earned the place in Best Rap Album Category. Last year, Nas received the Grammy for Best Rap Album for “King’s Disease”. Kanye West’s “Donda“, Lil Nas X’s “Montero” and Doja Cat’s “Planet Her” are the rap project that is featured in the Album of the year category. Doja Cat & SZA’s “Kiss Me More“, Silk Sonic’s “Leave The Door Open” and Lil Nas X’s “Montero” are up for the Song of the year. Doja Cat is the most-nominated rapper this year as she earns a spot in 8 categories.

The legendary DMX, who passed away earlier this year, also earned a nomination for his Jay-Z and Nas collab “Bath Salts” in the Best Rap Song category. The other tracks include Saweetie & Doja Cat’s “Best Friend”, Baby Keem & Kendrick Lamar’s “Family Ties”, Kanye West & Jay-Z’s “Jail”, J. Cole, 21 Savage, Morray’s “My Life”.

NBA Youngboy, the rapper who was recently released from prison after bail, earned his first-ever Grammy nomination for his assistance on Tyler, The Creator’s “WusYaName” which also featured Ty Dolla Sign. Drake, Future & Young Thug’s “Way To Sexy” also featured in the Best Rap Performance category.

West, who now goes by the name Ye, currently holds 22 Grammy awards and will have the chance to finally win the coveted album of the year award that he has been striving for throughout his career. There are many interesting plotlines surrounding West; not only does his album “DONDA” have a chance to win album of the year over Drake’s “Certified Lover Boy,” but he will also be competing against long-time rival Taylor Swift in the same category. West will face a tough competition in the best rap album category as well, as he will be up against some of the genre’s top talents such as J. Cole, Tyler, The Creator, Drake and last year’s winner Nas.

Last year’s Grammy winners reflected the creative debates that were taking place both online and in person. For example, Megan Thee Stallion of Houston won four accolades, including “Best New Artist” and “Best Rap Song” for “Savage” starring Beyonce, which makes sense considering that 2020 was her breakthrough year.

The 64th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony will be held on January 31, 2022. Check out the nominations below.
