NBA Youngboy Responds To Reports of Not Showing Up For Studio Session with J. Cole

NBA Youngboy addresses reports of making J. Cole wait for 8 hours in the studio.

Earlier this year, there were reports that NBA Youngboy made J. Cole wait for 8 hours in the studio, before not showing up for the session. “J. Cole waited in the studio for eight hours for Youngboy to show up,” said DJ Akademiks during his live stream. “Youngboy didn’t show up. Facts. These are facts. Your favorite rapper, ni**a. J. Cole? He sat in the studio for eight hours for a session with Youngboy. Youngboy never showed up.”

Now the Baton Rouge rapper did a conversation with DJ Akademiks himself on Clubhouse, where he revealed why the studio session with J. Cole never happened. “They lied and said I stood J. Cole up, man,” said YoungBoy. “They lied and said I wouldn’t go to the studio with him. I know who told somebody that too, though. Because it was only a few people who knew about that and that wasn’t even the case. I was mad at that moment, I was going through something, so what the f**k I’m gonna go in this man’s studio session for a meet-up with him knowing that I ain’t in the mood to talk or in the mood to, you know, f**k around.

He continues, “[They were saying] YB acting like a bi**h or something, but what the f**k I’m gonna go around this man for if I know I ain’t in the mood to talk to nobody or sit down and even be around somebody.” Akademiks then asked him if he talked to Cole after that, “No, ’cause that man don’t give a f**k about this sh*t,” responds Youngboy.

Since 2018, fans have been anticipating Cole’s follow-up to KOD, The Fall Off. In the meanwhile, the acclaimed MC has released a number of tracks, including the two-song Lewis Street pack “The Climb Back” and “Lion King On Ice,” which will be released in 2020.

He also released the contentious single “Snow On Tha Bluff” in June of last year. After many listeners realised he was targeting Chicago rapper/activist Noname, who’d been a vocal critic of how “top-selling artists” responded to the May 2020 police shooting of George Floyd, the song was met with a rapid response. Noname retaliated with the Madlib-produced “Song 33,” but she quickly apologised for making a “distraction” with the single and distanced herself from the debate.

Meanwhile, NBA Youngboy made his return to the music with two new singles “Heart & Soul” and “Alligator Walk”.

YoungBoy also confessed in the interview that he has a crush on Doja Cat and would marry her if he wasn’t currently in a relationship. “If I didn’t have a family, if I didn’t have a girl, I’d tryna marry Doja Cat,” he explained.

Social media users responded to Ak’s tale in a variety of ways. Some people wondered whether they might envision the two emcees sharing a track. Some individuals claimed YoungBoy missed a once-in-a-lifetime chance, while others emphasized the importance of his mental health. “S/O to the universe for preventing a NBA Youngboy and J. Cole collab from happening. I didn’t need to know how that would sound,” one user tweeted. Another wrote, “I’ve seen a lot of talking bout how J. Cole waited for YoungBoy at the studio for 8 hours [a]n[d] he didn’t show up. The fact that he didn’t go, its all ab[ou]t his f**ked up mental health. YoungBoy’s mental health is more important than a collab!”
