Young Thug & Gunna Arrested On Racketeering Charges As Part Of A 56-Count RICO Charge

All 28 members of Thug’s YSL group are charged with the same charges.

According to WSBTV’s Michael Seiden, Young Thug and Gunna are among 28 persons linked to YSL who were indicted in a 56-count indictment on Monday.

According to online jail records, Young Thug was arrested today in Atlanta on allegations of street gang activity and conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. According to sources from The New York Times and court records, the rapper was arrested as part of a grand jury trial that names 28 members and associates of his label and imprint YSL (Young Slime Life/Young Stoner Life/Young Slatt Life).

Young Thug, real name Jeffery Lamar Williams, was apprehended after his residence was searched and is being detained at the Fulton County Jail. According to prison documents, the Punk artist has been charged with conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) and involvement in illegal street gang activities. The conspiracy allegation arises from an alleged event on January 24, 2013, while the gang charge originates from a May 12, 2018 incident.

The 26-year-old Donovan Thomas was shot dead in 2015, and two other people were also injured in the drive-by shooting. Thug is suspected of hiring the vehicle which was used in the crime. In connection with the shooting of an Atlanta police officer, Christian “Big Bhris” Eppinger, who was also mentioned in the 56-count indictment, was detained earlier this year. Prosecutors, according to WSBTV, assert that Eppinger and Antonio Sumlin sought Thug for authorization before allegedly making a second attempt on YFN Lucci’s life. According to reports, Lucci was attacked in February in Fulton County Jail.

Thugger is set to make his first media appearance from May 10 at 11:30 a.m., while Gunna, 28, has yet to be scheduled as of 11:00 p.m. EST on May 9. Gunna, a protégé of Thug, reached new commercial heights in 2022 with the release of his No. 1 album DS4Ever and the top 10 song “Pushin P.” Thug’s own studio album Punk debuted at No. 1 in October 2021, and he also appeared on Drake’s “Way 2 Sexy,” which was one of the year’s biggest successes.

YSL has produced two Slime Language collections, the most recent of which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard list in 2021. Thug celebrated the end of the year by releasing his new album Punk and performing on Saturday Night Live. Drake, J. Cole, Travis Scott, Mac Miller, Future, the late Juice WRLD, A$AP Rocky, Post Malone, and Doja Cat were among the album’s notable guests. Gunna’s latest YSL album, DS4Ever, was released earlier this year.

The YSL-related content listed under the heading is considered “overt acts in furtherance of the conspiracy” and includes songs, videos, social media posts, and lyrics. Examples of this content include the collaboration between Young Thug and Juice WRLD called “Bad Boy,” which includes quoted passages from Juice WRLD. An excerpt from the opening track on “So Much Fun,” titled “Just How It Is,” is also cited as an example.

Defendant JEFFERY WILLIAMS, an associate of YSL, posted a video titled “Just How It Is,” with lyrics stating “I escaped every one of the l**ks cause I was supposed to be rich, I don’t care nothing bout no cop, I’m tellin you just how it is,” “Hit em with the MAC now, now his whole body scabbed,” “I done for the crew, I done did the robbin, I done did the jackin, now I’m full rappin,” “last ni**a tried me almost got popped in Lenox, ask the cops, ask the detectives, they know all the business, ask the cops and the detectives, all the jurisdictions,” “gave the lawyer close to two mil, he handles all the killings,” “we don’t speak bout sh*t on wax, it’s all mob business, we know to kill the biggest cats of all kittens,” an overt act in furtherance of the conspiracy.
