Watch Rare Footage of Biz Markie Surprising Eminem on His 26th Birthday

D12’s Kuniva remembers Biz Markie with a throwback clip from 26th Eminem Birthday.

On July 16, 2021, the legendary Marcel Theo Hall, better known as Biz Markie passed away at 57 after severe complications from Type 2 diabetes. Last December, it was reported that Markie was staying in a rehabilitation facility as a result of a stroke he had suffered after going into a diabetic coma. The Harlem-born rapper was sometimes referred to as the “Clown Prince of Hip Hop“. “Biz created a legacy of artistry that will forever be celebrated by his industry peers and his beloved fans whose lives he was able to touch through music, spanning over 35 years,” his manager Jenni Izumi, said in a written statement.

After the news of the Hip-Hop legend’s death, the music industry pays their respect to “Just a Friend” rapper through social media. Now rapper Kuniva, the member of Detroit band D12, also remembers Markie as he shared a rare clip of Biz surprising Eminem at a concert, on the occasion of Shady’s 26th Birthday. The video also features the late D12 member and Eminem’s childhood friend Big Proof.

The party took place in Detroit’s legendary St. Andrews in 1998, before Em’s breakthrough with “The Slim Shady LP,” but after he had established a name for himself in the industry. Marshall was surprised and honored to see Biz Markie and Big Daddy Kane of the Juice Crew at his birthday celebration. In the caption, Kuniva described the occurrence as follows: “In honor of a pioneer. I usually try to keep my personal pics and footage to myself bc people steal them and post like it’s theirs. So I kept the old a** text up on the screen from the two way. 😉But this was one of the most memorable nights EVER. The first time I met the legends @officialbizmarkie and @officialbigdaddykane at the bro @eminem surprise 26th Bday party we threw him at St. Andrews in Detroit. This was definitely a highlight in my life and I was just as starstruck as Em lol RIP to a GREAT legend who was super cool and showed us all love that night. #NobodyBeatsTheBIZ #RIPBigProoF,” Kuniva wrote in the caption.

During the early 2000s, D12 had chart-topping albums in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. During that time, the band released the albums Devil’s Night in 2001 and D12 World in 2004, producing multiple singles including “Fight Music,” “Purple Pills,” “My Band,” “How Come,” and “Sh*t on You.”
