The Weeknd's 'After Hours' Debuted At #1 on Billboard 200 with Highest First Week Sales of 2020

The Weeknd’s ‘After Hours’ Top the Billboard 200.

The Weeknd’s new album ‘After Hours‘ continues topping the streaming charts as it topped the Billboard 200 with sales over 444k in the first week. 275k out of 444k comes from pure sales. The album also becomes the album with most first-week numbers this year, dethroning BTS’s ‘Map of the Soul: 7‘ which debuted at number 1 with moving over 422k in the first week.

Lil Uzi Vert’s ‘Eternal Atake‘ ranked third this year with 288k copies, Eminem’s ‘Music To Be Murdered By‘ at 4th with 279k copies in the first week.

The album’s standard edition has no extras, while the remixes edition includes guest performances by Chromatics and Lil Uzi Vert. After Hours delves into the themes of promiscuity, overindulgence, and self-loathing. Prior to the album’s release, The Weeknd stated that After Hours will be artistically distinct from its predecessor, Starboy (2016).

The Weeknd did not earn any nominations for the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, which will be held on November 24, 2020, and Tesfaye replied in social media posts by labeling the Grammys “corrupt.” Speculation developed as to whether the revelation of his then-upcoming Super Bowl performance, as well as the question over if he should be nominated as pop or R&B, led to his team’s snubs in all categories.

The Weeknd’s new album also had the biggest album debut on Spotify this year.
