Styles P Says Hip-Hop Is Not As Competitive As It Used To Be

Styles P details the difference between Hip-Hop then and now.

Styles P has been in the rap game for around 3 decades, and the rapper thinks that hip-hop is not competitive as it used to be in the old days.

The LOX emcee appeared on Jalen Rose’s Renaissance Man With Jalen Rose podcast, where he talked about competitiveness in hip-hop using Basketball analogies. “That’s also the difference between Hip Hop of back then and Hip Hop of today, they aren’t competitive enough against each other, I feel,” he said. “I personally feel — like, when you get on a track with somebody it’s supposed to be business. When you get in the studio with somebody, you supposed to be trying to air them out. Not diss them, but you supposed to be trying to drop a triple-double.”

He continues: “If they gone drop a double-double, you want to make sure you drop a triple-double and I think that sense of competitiveness has left somewhat.”

Styles P is working on his possible final album, a follow-up to earlier this year’s “Penultimate: A Calm Wolf Is Still A Wolf.” The New York emcee last year announced that he’s taking retirement from his solo music career. The rapper took to his social media to make announcements regarding his future and revealed that he will drop two more solo albums before his retirement in late 2023. However, the rapper will keep contributing to his group The LOX with Sheek Louch Jadakiss.
