Rihanna is to headline the Super Bowl halftime show next year.
After a report from TMZ that the NFL and Roc Nation are in talks of listing Rihanna as a headliner for the 2023 Super Bowl halftime, the Barbados superstar has confirmed that she will be performing at the event next year. Just a while ago, Riri took to her social media and shared a picture of her hand holding up a football, seemingly confirming the circulating rumours.
According to a source, the forthcoming event will feature at least two artists, thus Rihanna’s co-host may be confirmed shortly. The NFL verified the news on Sunday by reposting a Roc Nation post that included the same photo RiRi published on Instagram. Roc Nation captioned the tweet, “Let’s GO.”
In an interview with Vogue in 2019, Riri revealed that NFL reached out to her to perform at Super Bowl, but she turned it down due to the Colin Kaepernick incident. “I couldn’t dare do that,” she said. “For what? Who gains from that? Not my people. I just couldn’t be a sellout. I couldn’t be an enabler. There’s things within that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way.”
Rihanna now follows up this year’s Super Bowl halftime show, which was headlined by Hip-Hop greats Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar and 50 Cent.
Apple Music will sponsor the halftime performance for the first time this year, replacing the NFL’s longstanding partner Pepsi. The Super Bowl LVII will be held on February 12, 2023, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
There are also chances of getting some new music from Rihanna ahead of the Super Bowl halftime show performance, which is a few months from now. It’s been six years since we last got a solo studio album from Rihanna, as she released her eighth studio effort “Anti” in 2016.
