Nicki Minaj's Super Bass Becomes Her First RIAA Diamond Certified Song

Nicki Minaj gets her first diamond certification with “Super Bass”.

Nicki Minaj is the latest entry on the list of rappers with at least one diamond certification. Nicki Minaj gets her first-ever RIAA Diamond Certification with her hit single “Super Bass” after it sold over 10Million copies in the US. The track was released in 2010, and appeared on Nicki’s debut album “Pink Friday”. She becomes the 8th rapper with a solo RIAA Diamond single.

“Super Bass” was released as a single from Minaj’s maiden studio album, Pink Friday, as part of a deluxe version. Though earlier singles “Your Love” and “Moment 4 Life” received significant airplay, “Super Bass” established Minaj as a pop and rap music force to be reckoned with. The song debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 2011 and spent 39 weeks on the chart.

Swift for rapping a portion of “Super Bass” during a 2011 Nashville radio interview, Sofia Grace and Rosie for recreating the song in a viral video, and Ellen DeGeneres for bringing the young YouTube stars on her show were among Minaj’s special thanks. Ester Dean and Kane Beatz, who co-wrote “Super Bass,” were also acknowledged.

The Trinidadian born rapper took to her social media to celebrate the special achievement with the diamond plaque. “#SuperBassDiamond Thank you for over a decade of support. #Barbz (special thx to Ester Dean, Kane, Juice, Taylor Swift, Sofia Grace & Rosie, Ellen, Young Money/Cash Money & Republic. This one was released b4 the streaming era, so millions of fans actually purchased the song. I’m so grateful for you guys. Sending love & blessings your way,” she wrote.

On May 22, 2011, “Super Bass” was played live for the first time at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards. On November 20, 2011, Minaj performed the song alongside David Guetta at the American Music Awards, as well as Guetta’s song “Turn Me On,” on which Minaj was featured. [48] Minaj also performed the song on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest and the 2011 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, both of which aired on CBS on November 29, 2011.

In other developments, Jennifer Hough has filed a lawsuit against Nicki Minaj and her husband, Kenneth “Zoo” Petty, alleging that Petty raped her at knifepoint in 1994. He was found guilty of first-degree attempted rape and sentenced to nearly four years in prison.

Hough has filed a $20 million lawsuit against the couple, accusing them of threatening, harassing, and attempting to bribe her over her se*ual assault accusations. Hough was supposedly promised $500,000 if she would retract her claim.

Last month, Kanye West also earned his first-ever RIAA Diamond Plaque with the song “Stronger”.
