Nicki Minaj Earns Third No. 1 On Billboard 200 With Pink Friday 2

Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 debuts at number 1 on Billboard 200.

The first week numbers for the latest album releases are here, and Nicki Minaj earned the top spot on the US Billboard 200 with Pink Friday 2. This is Minaj’s third number 1 album in the US, which is most among female rappers.

According to Luminate, Pink Friday 2 moved 228,000 equivalent album units in the week ending December 14th. The album’s SEA units comprise 129,000 (equaling 169.87 million on-demand official streams of the 22 songs), with pure album sales of 92,000.

This is the largest sales week for a female rap album in the 2020s decade, and the biggest R&B/hip-hop album by a female this year. This is Nicki’s first number 1 album in over a decade, as she previously earned it for Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded in 2012 and Pink Friday in 2011. Nicki’s previous two albums The Pinkprint (2015) and Queen (2018), both debuted at number 2 on the charts. This is also the third biggest rap album sales of 2023, following up on Travis Scott’s Utopia and Drake’s For All The Dogs.

The album’s lead single “Super Freaky Girl” earned Nicki the top spot of the US Billboard Hot 100 last year. The album’s sales is an increase of over 50k units from the first projected numbers 170-190k.

Nicki Minaj also made history on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts, as she earned 17 spots following the release of the album. 17 out of 22 tracks from the Pink Friday 2 album appear on this week’s Hot 100 chart. This now becomes the female rap album with the highest charted songs in the Hot 100 history.
