Lil Wayne Celebrates 18th Anniversary Of His Album Tha Carter

Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter” album turns 18.

It’s been 18 years since Lil Wayne dropped the first part of his classic “Tha Carter” series. The fourth studio album by the New Orleans rapper was released on June 29, 2004, through Cash Money Records and Universal Records.

Weezy took to his social media to reflect on the classic release. “18 years ago I had no idea of what you’d think abt this album and I was worried abt what it’d do but I never doubted what it would be,” he wrote. “A classic. A living legend. A beast. A jewel. A part of me and you forever. That part.”

The rapper also appreciated his fans for the support. “2 every fan thats been a member of this Carter family, I ain’t sh*t without you,” he said.

The 21-track project debuted at number five on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 116,000 copies in its first week. In September 2020, the album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

Establishing himself as a legitimate solo sensation in 2005 with Tha Carter II, becoming an iconic hip hop artist in 2008 with Tha Carter III, and breaking records with his own stable of performers in 2011 with Tha Carter IV. Tha Carter V was supposed to come out in 2014, three years later, but because of a contractual snag with Birdman and Cash Money, project was repeatedly postponed. Tha Carter V, the series’ fifth and last episode, was released in 2018, and it demonstrated Wayne’s lyrical brilliance.
