Lauren London Gives Heartfelt Speech As Nipsey Hussle Honored With Hollywood Walk Of Fame Star

Nipsey Hussle receives the Hollywood Walk of Fame Star.

As announced, the late Nipsey Hussle is honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on his what would’ve been 37th Birthday (Aug. 15). The ceremony was attended by Nipsey’s family, friends and his longtime partner Lauren London.

London who has a 5-year-old son Kross with the late rapper, gave a heartfelt speech at the event. “Happy birthday, Hussle. Thank you for acknowledging a visionary. I think I speak for the entire city of L.A. when I say that we’ve always known Hussle was destined for greatness, this moment only amplifies that for us. Nip would have been honoured by this moment. I think he would want everyone to remember that you can’t get to what’s possible unless you commit to moving forward.”

She continued, “That doesn’t mean forgetting where you come from but it requires acknowledging the reality you were born into and the power you have to change that reality for the better.”

“The Hollywood Walk of Fame is honored to remember Nipsey Hussle (and) his legacy today on what would have been his 37th birthday,” said Lupita Sanchez Cornejo, chairperson of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

Nipsey Hussle was shot outside his Marathon Clothing store in South Los Angeles on March 31, 2019. Eric Holder, a man who interacted with the rapper earlier that day, was arrested two days later on charges of murder. He was found guilty of first-degree murder last month on July 6, 2022.

Hussle earned a name for himself as a rapper, activist, and entrepreneur until his tragic death on March 31, 2019. At the tail end of the 2000s, he emerged onto the local music arena with Slauson Boy Volume 1 and the Bullets Ain’t Got No Name mixtape series before starting his independent record label, All Money In.

Hussle signed a collaboration agreement with Atlantic Records in 2017 and produced his big label debut album, Victory Lap, to rave reviews. This solidified his reputation for having a perfect grind. It received a nomination for best rap song at the 2019 Grammy Awards. While he missed out on that opportunity, the father of two was posthumously awarded two Grammy awards in 2020: best rap performance for “Racks in the Middle,” a song he collaborated on with Hit-Boy and Roddy Ricch, and best rhythmic rap success for his appearance on DJ Khaled’s “Higher” with John Legend.
