Kanye West Postpones Marseille Concert Amid Possible France Entry Ban.
Kanye West has postponed his upcoming concert in Marseille, France, as pressure builds from local authorities and government officials over whether he should be allowed to enter the country. The announcement came Tuesday night via X (formerly Twitter), where Ye stated that the decision to delay the show was his own.
“After much thought and consideration, it is my sole decision to postpone my show in Marseille, France until further notice,” he wrote.
Growing pressure from French officials
The postponement follows confirmation from the office of French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez that officials are actively exploring ways to prevent Ye from performing in Marseille, France’s oldest city.
Marseille mayor Benoit Payan has been one of the most vocal opponents. In a post earlier this month, he strongly rejected the idea of Ye performing at the city’s iconic Velodrome stadium. “I refuse to let Marseille be a showcase for those who promote hatred and unapologetic Nazism. Kanye West is not welcome,” he wrote.
His comments reflect a broader wave of criticism and concern surrounding the rapper’s past controversies, particularly statements that have drawn accusations of antisemitism.
Ye responds: “My fans are everything”
Despite the backlash, Kanye struck a more reflective tone in a follow-up message, emphasising accountability and his relationship with fans. “I know it takes time to understand the sincerity of my commitment to make amends,” he said. “I take full responsibility for what’s mine but I don’t want to put my fans in the middle of it. My fans are everything to me.”
Ye also hinted at future performances, adding: “Looking forward to the next shows. See you at the top of the globe.”
Could France actually ban him?
While the threat of a ban was enough to push the concert into indefinite delay, actually preventing West from performing in Marseille may not be straightforward.

According to French outlet Le Monde, citing the country’s highest administrative court, local authorities can only ban a concert under strict legal conditions, specifically if there is a risk of criminal activity or a threat to public order. Interior Minister Nunez reportedly met with regional officials, including prefect Jacques Witkowski, to discuss possible legal paths forward in the matter.
A wider pattern across Europe
This situation in France comes shortly after Ye faced similar issues in the United Kingdom. On April 7, the UK government denied him entry ahead of a planned headline performance at London’s Wireless Festival. Prime Minister Keir Starmer publicly stated that Ye “should never have been invited,” referencing his past controversies. The fallout was immediate, sponsors withdrew, and the festival was ultimately cancelled.
For now, Kanye’s Marseille concert remains postponed indefinitely, and uncertainty continues to surround his appearance in Europe.
While the rapper has expressed willingness to make amends and engage with communities, the response from governments and organisers suggests that his path back to international stages may not be easy.
