Kanye West buys a Malibu house for $57 million.

Kanye West has dropped a fortune to own a new house by the sea. Kanye West has paid around $57 million to buy a Malibu Residence, which is designed by Pritzker Prize-winning Japanese architect Tadao Ando, and it is one of the few homes he created in the US. The GOOD Music boss has bought the home in an off-market deal, as last year it was on the market for around $75 million. Richard Sachs, a Wall Street investor, formerly owned it.

Kanye’s been quoted describing the art as “life-changing” and once said he’d like to live inside a James Turrel sculpture. The mansion reportedly required 1200 tons of poured concrete, 200 tons of steel reinforcement, and 12 pylons drive 60 feet into the ground, supporting the monstrously heavy house from sinking into the sand.

The house has three floors, for distinct purposes. The lowest floor has three guest bedrooms, the middle one has a living room, kitchen, and powder room, while the top floor is exclusively reserved for the owner, with its penthouse level bedroom suite and rooftop oceanside terrace.

The residence is only about 30 minutes drive in distance from his massive Hidden Hills Compounds, which was built by Kanye and his estranged wife Kim Kardashian.

Kanye’s real estate holdings already include a $14 million ranch in Cody, Wyoming, a Calabasas apartment inspired by Brutalism, and two New York City lofts with a minimalist aesthetic. He also owns a large plot of property in Calabasas, where he constructed his distinctive dome-shaped residences.
