Eminem Faces Backlash For His Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Nomination

Eminem’s nomination over other hip hop legends is being questioned. Why is Eminem backlashed for his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination?

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced the nominees for this year’s honours, and the Detroit Rapper received a spot in his first year of eligibility. Eminem became eligible for the Hall of Fame with the 25th anniversary of his debut album “Infinite”, which was released in November 1996.

All 15 nominees are put for the fan vote section, and the top five artists, as selected by the public, will comprise a “fans’ ballot” that will be tallied along with the other ballots to choose the 2022 inductees. Pat Benatar is currently leading the list, while Eminem is closing in rapidly on the number 2 spot.

However, the “Lose Yourself” rapper’s spot is being questioned by the hip-hop fans, as he received the nomination before many other rap icons, including Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, Snoop Dogg and more. Rolling Stone also shared an article about it, calling it Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s problem, as they picked a white rapper before other black pioneers, who started their careers before him. “Somehow Eminem has a chance to be inducted before Joy Division, The Smiths, and Pixies. I don’t get it,” said one user. “Not surprised Beastie Boys got in before RUN-DMC so it’s expected,” said another.

“Eminem is the most disrespected rapper on HHT [Hip-Hop twitter],” said a user. “The disrespect is rooted in calling a white rapper better than any other black rapper,” responded another.

Eminem’s good friend and former Slaughterhouse member KXNG Crooked was also asked about his choice for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction, to which he named Snoop Dogg. After the pick, a fan told Crooked “Just say EM don’t deserve it”. “Why would I say that,” he responds.

It hasn’t hindered Eminem that he is white in a predominantly black genre, a circumstance that has allowed him to achieve heights that his colleagues could never dream of. He has taken notice of this fact multiple times over his career, to his credit. (Despite Slim Shady being about as “rock” as Redman, he even chastised rock stations for broadcasting his scorching manifesto “The Way I Am.”)

So the debate isn’t whether he deserves to be inducted with his idol, LL Cool J, with whom he performed at the induction ceremony last year. It’s a question of whether he should be voted in ahead of all the other deserving Black hip-hop pioneers.

Eminem has achieved the distinction of joining the elite group of entertainers who have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The record-breaking rapper was officially welcomed into the Hall of Fame by his long-time collaborator Dr. Dre during the ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 5th.

Eminem performed a selection of his iconic tracks, such as “Forever,” “Not Afraid,” and “My Name Is,” on the stage. His induction into the Hall of Fame puts him in the company of a select group of hip-hop artists who have received this honor.
