Drake Calls J. Cole One Of The Greatest Rappers To Ever Touch A Mic

J. Cole brings out Drake in “The Off-Season” tour in Miami.

J. Cole has kicked off his “The Off-Season” tour with the first show in Miami. The concert featured both supporting artists Morray and 21 Savage. J. Cole also surprised the Miami crowd as he brought out guest stars Future and Drake, who performed their latest number 1 single “Way 2 Sexy“. During his appearance, Drake also addressed J. Cole, who recently said that he’s running third behind Drizzy and Kendrick, on the “Pipe Down” freestyle “Heaven’s EP“.

Some people say that I’m running third, they threw the bronze at me / Behind Drake and Dot, yeah, them ni**as is superstars to me / Maybe deep down, I’m afraid of my luminosity,” Cole raps on the song.

Hey, I just wanna say, come here man [puts hand on Cole’s shoulder], this is my guy right here man,” Drake said. “First of all, thank you for being the first person to bring us back to the arena so we could do some shows for these people. And second of all, I just like, I gotta say this just ’cause I don’t always wanna have a heartfelt moment when we’re on stage together. You know, you did that ‘Pipe Down’ freestyle the other day right. You was sayin’ in the freestyle that they gave you the bronze or whatever, me and Kendrick… I just want you to understand something. You are genuinely, without a doubt, one of the greatest rappers to ever touch a mic.

Drake continues, “I just want to let you know, there’s way too many people in the world that think and know that J. Cole is in the top position. I love you with all my heart, you’re my brother, one of my favorite artists. Always appreciate you having me out here. Miami, I love you with all my heart. Thank you for the support on the album [CLB].

The lyric, that Drizzy’s referring to, is signature Cole delivering an introspective bar about his standing in the rap game. “Some people say that I’m running third, they threw the bronze at me/ Behind Drake and Dot, yeah, them niggas is superstars to me/“ Cole raps over Drake’s “Pipe Down” beat.

Beginning with “In The Morning” from Cole’s Friday Night Lights mixtape in 2011, Drake and J. Cole have collaborated on a number of tracks, including “Jodeci Freestyle” and others.

Both of them have at least five No. 1 studio albums, and this year, The Off-Season and Certified Lover Boy spent time at the top of the Billboard 200 list, making them two of the more well-known musicians on the Billboard charts together.
