Chris Brown's Michael Jackson Tribute Performance Canceled By AMAs; Fans React

The 2022 AMAs are taking place on Sunday.

This year’s American Music Awards is taking place on Sunday (Nov. 20) at Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, and it listed Chris Brown as one of the performers. However, the platform has cancelled the Breezy performance without giving any reason.

P!nk, Dove Cameron, Lil Baby, Anitta, and Bebe Rexha are some of the performers that will take the stage during the 2022 Ceremony. Chris Brown, an R&B superstar, was also included. Sadly, a recent Instagram post by him shows that his Michael Jackson homage has unexpectedly been removed of the setlist.

The R&B great took to his social media and revealed that he was supposed to do a tribute performance on Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” 40th anniversary, but the set has now been cancelled. He shared a clip from the rehearsals where he was performing “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’”, “Billie Jean” and the title track. “U Serious?,” wrote Brown. “WOULDVE been the ama performance but they cancelled me for reasons unknown.”

“I’m sick to my stomach!!! I’m so so so sorry this happened Chris! You were so exited! The whole team on and off the floor was excited!!! Never left a rehearsal without having chills! To go to a rehearsal and be inspired everyday in more ways than one is crazy!!!!! So grateful to have been apart of this man!!! This video does us no justice! Sending you love,” wrote a fan on his IG. “That’s f**ked up the AMAs canceled Chris brown performance. He ain’t did nothing wrong publicly lately that y’all can say is the reason,” wrote Lil Duval.

Michael Jackson was one of Chris Brown's biggest inspirations. When the R&B singer was 17, he also performed for the King of Pop in London for a "Thriller" tribute. "People loved the performance. I went backstage and met him," said Brown. "He said hi to my mom, he was respectful. It was just one of those great times in [my] life."

“To make Chris Brown believe he is performing at the AMAs and to take him out without a heads up after he’s put all that time & money into rehearsals is sad. The worst part is he was paying tribute to his IDOL, Michael Jackson & you guys crushed him like that. Smh,” shared another fan.

Chris Brown uploaded a video of himself practising with other musicians. Breezy rhythms to tunes like “Beat It,” “Billie Jean,” “Wanna Be Starting Something,” and “Thriller,” obviously taking influence from his favourite, Michael Jackson.
