A Year Ago, Salma Hayek Spilled Water All Over Eminem

When Salma Hayek spilled water on Eminem at the Oscars 2020.

A year ago around this time, Eminem made a surprise appearance at the Academy Awards 2020 where he performed his track called “Lose Yourself“. The performance happened 18 years after winning an Oscar for the same song. Not only performing, but Eminem also had a weird moment backstage where he bumps into Salma Hayek, who spilled water all over him.

In these pictures, it might look like Eminem and I are best friends,” wrote Salma on her IG, “but what really happened is as he was walking offstage and I was getting ready to walk on stage, I was so shocked to see him that I spilled water all over him. If you examine our faces, I look mortified and he looks terrified of me- As I was trying to wipe it off I impulsively hugged him and I said “Nice to meet you Eminem- I’m a HUGE fan!” because I AM! But I was so disappointed that I made such a fool of myself in front of him… and then I read this [swipe right] in Rollingstone. Eminem, you’re the greatest!!!

After the performance, Eminem did an interview with Variety where he revealed he enjoyed the ceremony where he got to hug Salma Hayek.

The actress remained dejected until she learned that Eminem was ecstatic to see her. When asked if he enjoyed his time at the Oscars — 17 years after “Lose Yourself” from “8 Mile” (2002) won — he said yes. Eminem replied, “Absolutely. I got to hug Salma Hayek!” “Eminem you’re the greatest!!!” Hayek declared.

And to think they may have met 17 years ago if Eminem had attended the Academy Awards, as Hayek was also nominated for Best Actress for her role in “Frida.” It was always supposed to be this way.

In an interview with Variety, the rapper stated that he was informed that the Oscars had planned a tribute to previous Best Original Song winners, with 8 Mile as a part of a montage that would be introduced by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The organizers reached out to Eminem to perform, which was a good opportunity as he had just released his eleventh album, “Music to Be Murdered By.”
“I kinda figured maybe since I didn’t get a chance to do it [in 2003], maybe it would be cool,” Eminem told Variety. “Back then, I never even thought that I had a chance to win, and we had just performed ‘Lose Yourself’ on the Grammys with the Roots a couple of weeks before the Oscars, so we didn’t think it was a good idea. And also, back at that time, the younger me didn’t really feel like a show like that would understand me.”
