Later in the podcast, Eminem informed Tyson about his early life problems, including living in poverty in Detroit “with nowhere to go” until landing his big break working with Dr. Dre. Em also talked about his unexpected presence at the 92nd Academy Awards, when he sang his 2002 song from the band 8 Mile, “Lose Yourself.” Almost twenty years after it won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, co-host Eben Britton questioned Slim about how it felt to sing the song. Em shook his head and sighed with dissatisfaction. It turns out there was a little issue, which the majority of viewers most likely overlooked.
“I’mma tell you why I’m making that face. Because when I went there, everything was cool, right?” he explained (31:07). “I go through the first verse, and they had the mic pack that you wear on your belt … and I’m rappin’, and all of sudden I see between my legs, the motherf**kin’ pack swinging.”
