Tyler, The Creator Explains Why Top Rappers Lists Annoys Him

Tyler, The Creator is not a fan of the top rappers’ list.

Tyler, The Creator is set to make an appearance on the season two premiere of Rap Radar Podcast, which will debut this week. Ahead of the premiere, a trailer clip was shared, in which the “IGOR” rapper reveals why top rapper lists annoys him.

“You know what annoys me?” Creator tells Rap Radar hosts Elliott Wilson and B. Dot. “When people are like, ‘This is my top five’ and people argue it. You got 17-year-olds like, ‘Yeah, dude, f**king Ready to Die and Enter the Wu-Tang is my top ten albums ever.’ Like, bro, you just got hair on your d**k.”

He continues: “It’s performative, and again, some people might be right, but you got YoungBoys and Babys out here and that’s your favorite album? I don’t care about people’s objective top nothing. Tell me what is your favorite s**t because you learn so much from people. You get context. I want to know why you think Pookie Dookie’s second album is your favorite. ‘Oh, I have memories attached to it … My brother did this and that, and on track seven he talks about this… I found out I was going through it.’ Like, I want to hear that.”

The rapper then talked about his fans always debating his music. “Dude, the kids be doing it with me,” Tyler says. “They do a tier list of like ‘A, B, C and D’ of the albums they like of me and then ask people’s thoughts. You’re asking people their thoughts on what you hold to your heart? What kind of stupid sh*t is that? That’s why I f**king hate rap Twitter because everything’s performative. Everyone is making these lists just to have people engage. Like, who gives a f**k who the top three is?”

Just recently, the rapper released a deluxe edition of his latest album “CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST: The Estate Sale”. The new version comes with additional appearances from YG, Vince Staples and ASAP Rocky.

In the interview, the rapper also revealed he hate his debut album “Goblin”. “Bro, Goblin is f**king terrible, but I still love it,” Tyler said. “It’s an energy and an aura that it has — hearing my wonky synths and gross drums and me not realizing I’m yelling on every song and saying the most wild sh*t is what got people there. It’s not about the music. If you were there, that energy and that aura and that air just cutting through what everyone else was doing is so important.”

He continued, “And there’s still some ones on there. I still think ‘Yonkers’ is awesome. ‘She’ is awesome. The first two versions of ‘Nightmare’ is ill. ‘Tron Cat’ is still awesome. ‘Analog’ is still cool. Like, there’s still a few things on there, but people don’t know, like, a lot of songs on that album were just random songs I recorded after ‘Goblin’ that we kind of just [viewed as], ‘Yeah, here, I got these songs.’”
