Grip talks about meeting Eminem in a new interview.
Earlier this month, Eminem and Shady Records announced that they have signed their newest label members, the up and coming East Atlanta rapper Grip. It was revealed through social media where they shared a picture of the Detroit Rapper in the studio with Grip. After signing with the deal, Grip dropped a new song “Gutter” on the same day and revealed that he’s working on his upcoming Shady Records debut album.
Now the rapper recently sat down with Infinite Vibes station for a new interview where he talks about various things including meeting Eminem for the first time and how all things come together. “Right now it’s a partnership [with Shady Records],” says Grip. “Straight Society, which is my sh*t and Shady, they’re being distributed through Shady Records. This was like last year we got approached by Paul Rosenberg. He had heard the music through the homie mike. And he was just like yo, played it for Em and Em is just like who’s this who the f**k is this. Let’s go down see what’s up. I talked to him a few times and you know all the legal sh*t, that sh*t takes long time. We started working on a new album and was just like f**k it we gonna just keep working until everything figures itself out. Pretty much wrapped the album up and everything came and signed a deal. Met Eminem, cool motherf**ker. It was cool man.”
“We went to Detroit, met Royce Da 5’9″ first, cool motherf**ker, GOAT. Then f**kin met Eminem, I was like oh sh*t. They called him Marshall and sh*t. So played him the album and he was f**kin with it. It was an epic moment for me but it was still just like another day. It was like a full circle moment. Like I was literally remember listening to Eminem in the walkman. Studying his cadences and his wordplay and sh*t. Never imagined it.”
The host also asks him if we can expect an Eminem collaboration on his upcoming project. “We all can expect some sh*t [everyone laughs]. Hopefully, I don’t know,” says Grip.
On the show, Grip also spits bars in a freestyle over the classic Eminem instrumental of “Role Model”.
The upshot of Grip’s collaboration with Shady Records is, of course, his record, which will be published “probably later this month,” as he explains. This is all the clarity our hosts were able to elicit from a new Shady signing. Grip also avoided answering a question about Em’s expected appearance on this album. Grip’s debut is rumored to occur on July 23, although there is no official date yet, and given the possibility of a clash with Nasaan’s release, it may be pushed back.
