ScHoolboy Q Says Kendrick Lamar Saved His Life Dot Made Me A Rapper

ScHoolboy Q gets emotional while talking about Kendrick Lamar.

ScHoolboy Q was a recent guest on the BackOnFigg podcast, where the rapper sat down for a detailed interview for around four hours. During one part of the conversation, the TDE rapper gets emotional as he explains how Kendrick Lamar saved his life.

“Dot taught me,” he said. “Dot taught me so much, bro. Dot… Dot gave me… Dot gave me so much confidence. Dot made me a rapper. This sh-t make me want to cry right now.”

The emoitonal ScHoolboy then jokingly says he would never cry again on air like he did after Mac Miller’s death in 2019. “Dot saved my life,” he added. “I owe a lot to Dot.”

“Dot made me his hypeman, he would tell me to come to the studio all the time,” he continued. “Even with Dre, Dre was initially interested in Kendrick,” he recalled. “And then every time he went to Dre sh-t, he’s like ‘I’m going to Dre sh-t. I’m going to Dre sh-t, pull up, pull up. I was like his lil’ sidekick. Next thing you know, Dre hearing my sh-t. And then I get my deal because of Dre, really. I get signed to Interscope because Dre was f–king with me. He just kept pulling me, kept pulling me.”

Over the years, Schoolboy Q and Kendrick Lamar worked on some joints, which includes “Collard Greens” and “Blessed”. “This is like the introduction to the album,” said ScHoolboy about Collard Greens single from his third studio album Oxymoron in 2014. “This is just getting people excited and getting people ready for what’s about to happen.”
