Lizzo Reveals Why She Name Dropped Drake On New Single "Rumors"

Lizzo gives an interview to Zane Lowe, talks about Drake and More.

Lizzo made her return to the music scene to kick off her new era with a new single called “Rumors“, which featured hitmaker Cardi B. For the promo run, she sat down with Apple Music for an interview with Zane Lowe. The 33-year-old Detroit native talked about inspirations behind the new single, her upcoming album, her rise to fame, working with female rappers, and more. Lizzo also talked about name-dropping Drake, where she denied f**king him yet.

The pop singer raps in one of the song’s verses, which was published on Thursday (August 13): “Last year, I thought I would losе it / Readin’ sh*t on the internеt / My smoothie cleanse and my diet / No, I ain’t f**k Drake yet (Ha).

I just thought it would be so funny to say,” says Lizzo. “I have a small relationship with him. He’s very cool. I just feel like women, there’s so many times where girls’ names get dropped in songs because they’re fine.

She also praised her collaborator Cardi B and said, “She’s just funny. I like funny people and she can rap. You know what I’m saying? Seriously be rapping. It’s because she was true to herself the whole time. She’s a groundbreaker. You can’t deny her ability. She’s a superstar.

In the same Apple Music interview, Lizzo said that she included Drake’s name in her song for another reason, stating that she wanted to flip the script considering how frequent it is for male musicians to name-drop female singers in their song lyrics.

Rumours is Lizzo’s first single to be released in two years, and it also marks her first collaboration with Cardi B. The two actresses appear in a music video that is big on theatrics and drama, with the duo decked out in gold.
