Drake Reveals Lil Wayne Thought His Email Address Was His Real Name

Drake explains why Lil Wayne thought his name was “Drizzy Drake Rogers”.

Drake and Lil Wayne have one of the longest rap friendships, as the Toronto rap star started his career through the Young Money label. However, the journey kicked off with some misunderstanding, as Weezy thought Drake’s email address was his real name.

Drake recently sat down with Lil Yachty for a conversation during the Turks and Caicos trip, where he recalled Wayne first thinking his name wrong. “My email was drizzydrake@rogers.com,” Drake says. “Rogers is the service provider in Canada. Wayne thought that — he didn’t realize at that time that the @ in the email was like a middle, interference. So he just thought my name was Drizzy Drake Rogers.”

Back in 2008, Drake and Lil Wayne collaborated on the song “Ransom,” which showcased their dense and intricate rapping skills. The track featured both rappers delivering lengthy and impressive verses. During Wayne’s verse, he referred to Drake as “Drizzy Drake Rogers,” mistakenly believing that “Rogers” was his surname rather than his email provider.

Wayne even rapped about the confusion during their 2008 collab “Ransom”. “And I think his name was kinda like “Drake Drizzy Rogers” / Or “Drizzy Drake Rogers,” I’m too busy to play father / And when it comes to the game, I’m too willing to play harder,” he rapped.

“I mean, he rapped it once,” Drake added. “I didn’t have the heart to correct him… God bless his heart.”

During the interview, the two rappers veered off-topic and delved into a discussion about their upbringing, the debate between nature versus nurture, and the origins of accents.
“Our accents […] we probably all sound foreign to you being from Toronto because of just a place that we’re from,” Drake explained. “I don’t know who started talking like that! I’d love to meet that guy. I literally want to meet the first Toronto man of all time. I don’t know who he is. I don’t know where he got the accent from or any of that but I know that he’s influenced all of us. I’m a full father talking like internet memes because that’s just my upbringing.”
