Dina Rae Reveals Mariah Carey Was Originally Featured on Eminem's Superman

Mariah Carey was the original feature on Eminem’s “Superman”.

Dina Rae, the California singer recently sat down with SideShowRaaj for an exclusive interview. The 40-year-old is known for her vocals on the hit Eminem‘s song “Superman” which appeared on his “The Eminem Show” album in 2002. They also worked together on songs like “Cum On Everybody”, “Drug Ballad” and in a few songs on D12’s album. Among other things, Dina Rae talked about her Eminem collaboration, and revealed that Mariah Carey was originally featured on the song “Superman”.

I was called in,” says Dina Rae. “I was flown to Detroit for ‘Superman.’ I did it in Eminem’s studio. Other three songs we did in Los Angeles. So Eminem flew me in for “Superman” and I will give you little fun fact that a lot of people don’t know this. But, Mariah Carey actually was the original vocal on Superman. And then whatever happened. He was little upset. He was like ‘f**k it, call Dina.’ So I got flown in. Her vocals were actually reference and I recorded there in the studio on his crib and that’s how Superman came about.

I always respected Em. Em was always straight up with me. He always tells me what it is. He basically told me this When he flew me to Detroit. ‘look, I can’t sign you Dina, me and Dre just went half of this kid named 50 Cent. He said, But I’m going to put you on my tour and you are going to get your own deal. I was just grateful for the opportunity.

The song was released around the time when Eminem and Mariah Carey had a rumoured relationship, and a fallout between the two probably resulted in replacing her from the popular song. Eminem also name-dropped Mariah in his verse on the song.

What you tryin’ to be, my new wife?
What you Mariah? Fly through twice.” raps Eminem.

The song “Superman” is from Eminem’s fourth studio album The Eminem Show (2002). It was released as a single from the album on January 27, 2003, in the United States alone, and peaked at #15 and #42 on the Billboard Hot 100. It contains backup vocals from vocalist Dina Rae, a frequent collaborator.

The song is about Eminem’s difficult relationships and promiscuous behavior with the women in his life, and how he intends to deal with it. Eminem stated in his 2008 autobiography “The Way I Am” that the song is about his supposed connection with singer Mariah Carey to some extent.

Over the year, Eminem has been taking shots at Mariah Carey ever since their infamous feud in 2009. Mariah contacted Em in 2001 about a possible inclusion on her album, but it never materialized. Eminem, being Eminem, began taking shots at Mariah Carey on his iconic tune “Superman”: Em then released “The Warning” in July 2009, which was generally regarded as ruining Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey’s careers.

At that time Cannon said in an interview, “‘At first, I thought it was old material that had been dug up from when dude ‘fantasized’ about having a pretend fling with Mariah. But all of a sudden I hear my name in the verse! My first reaction was like, ‘This is his new sh*t? Wow, that’s too bad’.”
