New trailer of upcoming Nicki Minaj documentary released.
A new 6-part docu-series on the life of Nicki Minaj is coming soon, and the rapper has unveiled the first trailer for the project. “Coming SOON!!!! The #NickiDocumentary you didn’t know you needed. Love you so much,” she wrote with the 2 minute trailer clip.
The film is produced by Canadian company Bron Studios, and the new trailer begins with a Young Nicki Minaj rapping, followed by a voiceover, “You don’t get a manual on how to be a famous rapper.”
The trailer shows some of the greatest moments of her career, including the praise from Taylor Swift in a 2011 tweet. “Driving back from rehearsals listening to Super Bass by @nickiminaj OVER AND OVER. I’m obsessed with this song,” she tweeted on January 8, 2011.
“This industry is just not a loving, supportive place. They pretend sometimes, but it’s just not,” she acknowledges in the trailer. Clips of her performing on big stages and broken up by a behind-the-scenes look at her exhaustion and a health issue, but she notes that music is what keeps her sane as she learned to be strong despite her adversaries.
“I never wanted to be mainstream. Mainstream came to me. I take an art form of rap very serious,” says Minaj. “I think that we just don’t get the respect that men do. You constantly feel like you’re doing something wrong, and so you just stop doing period. This industry is just not a loving, supportive place. It pretends sometimes, but it’s just not.”
