Lil Nas X & NBA Youngboy connect on “Late To Da Party”.
After a surprise announcement earlier this month, Lil Nas X and NBA Youngboy join forces on a brand new song called “Late To Da Party”. The track comes after Lil Nas’ recent shots at BET Awards for zero nominations at this year’s award.
In a video posted to Twitter, Nas X lip-syncs on a teaser of the track that begins with him saying “F**k BET” multiple times. He goes on to say how successful he has been without their help. “I put like three up in the Top Ten/And I don’t need nobody”, he sings – referencing the success of his 2021 singles ‘MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)‘, ‘INDUSTRY BABY‘ and ‘THATS WHAT I WANT’.
Now in the song, Lil Nas again screams “F**k BET” in the intro, while Youngboy hyping him up. “These people they know not to try me / I get in that mode and collect me a body / I’m up in New York like I’m Gotti / I’m ridin’ lil’ shorty like new Kawasakis,” raps NBA.
The video text begins with a direct appeal to BET before continuing with yellow lettering on a black background, much like in the movies: “NBA YOUNGBOY is on house arrest, trapped on the isolated planet HATU. The Brutal Empire of Terror (BET) has betrayed LIL NAS X, turning their back on him after using him for clout.” It goes on, “With the music industry in turmoil, the galaxy is looking for a hero. NAS must use the ancient power of r EDITING to free YB and defeat the evil BET before time runs out…”
