Moneybagg Yo Releases His New Album A Gangsta's Pain

Moneybagg Yo drops “A Gangsta’s Pain” project feat. Lil Durk, Pharrell, Jhene Aiko & more.

After announcing it last week with the release of “GO!“, Moneybagg has now released his new album called “A Gangsta’s Pain“. The album contains 22 tracks with guest appearances from Polo G, Lil Durk, Jhene Aiko, Pharrell, and more.

The album is being accompanied by the release of a video for the song “Shottas (Lala),” which was shot in Jamaica. Moneybagg will make his national television debut on NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Monday.

Last month, he teamed up with Future for the “Hard For The Next” official video. On October 22, 2021, a deluxe edition with six new songs was published, featuring extra guest performances from EST Gee, Pooh Shiesty, Big Homiie G, Yung Bleu, Janiyah, Lil Wayne, Ashanti, and DJ Khaled.

Moneybagg was seen with Jhené Aiko while filming the video clip for their song “One of Dem Nights,” and that collaboration, along with his “Hard for the Next” single with Future, demonstrates that Moneybagg can give hard-hitting verses as well as a gentler side to his lyrical style.

A Gangsta’s Pain debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 on May 8, 2021, with 110,000 album-equivalent units sold in its first week, with virtually all of this coming from streaming. The album slid to number two on the list in its second week, collecting an additional 70,000 sales. In its third week, the album reclaimed the top spot on the charts, selling an extra 61,000 copies.

Two projects by Moneybagg Yo were published in 2020: Code Red, a joint mixtape with fellow American rapper Blac Youngsta, and his third studio album, Time Served. Both albums had their Billboard 200 debuts at numbers 3 and 6, respectively, and peaked in the top 10 at those positions. The Recording Industry Association of America awarded the earlier album a gold certification (RIAA).

According to Billboard, streaming accounted for the majority of the 110,000 equivalent album units: 106,000 came from SEA units, 4,000 from album sales, and less than 1,000 from TEA units. Moneybagg’s final tally came in around 95-100K units, which was close to early estimates. Prior to the release of the album on April 23, the Memphis rapper released two top 20 singles, “Hard for the Next” featuring Future and “Time Today.

Moneybagg’s album “A Gangsta’s Pain” is his 11th to chart, and his fifth to reach the top ten. Time Served, released in January 2020, reached No. 3, Code Red, released in October 2020, reached No. 6, 2019’s 43va Heartless, reached No. 4, and Federal 3X, released in 2017, reached No. 5. Heartless, his 2017 album, was his first to chart on the Billboard 200, peaking at No. 177.

Moneybagg Yo’s “Time Today” adds to the haters and social media jokes about him, including physical parallels to the William character from Girlfriends. This wonderful sense of humour enabled the video to become viral and garner over 28 million views on YouTube. This commercial success has resulted in monetary rewards. Moneybagg recently revealed that he is being paid $125,000 each concert.
