The Weeknd wins big at Billboard Music Awards 2021.
Earlier tonight, the Billboard Music Awards 2021 took place at LA’s Microsoft Theater which was hosted by Nick Jonas. It was the first award ceremony that took place live since the start of the Covid-19 Pandemic in the US. The Weeknd, who was snubbed by the Grammys earlier this year, took home 10 BBMAs after being nominated in 16 categories, including Top Artist, Top Male Artist, and Top Hot 100 Artist.
“You guys make me want to do this forever. I love you so much,” says The Weeknd. “I just want to say, the After Hours are done, and the dawn is coming. I’d like to thank God that I don’t have to wear that red suit anymore.”

Pop Smoke, the young rapper who was passed away last year, was honored with five awards at the ceremony. BTS and Bad Bunny each earner four BBMAs at the event. At the annual event, the Toronto rap star Drake was given the prestigious Artist of the Decade, after dominating the 2010s. “I didn’t write a grandiose speech about how to make it work or what it took, ’cause to be honest, I don’t really understand it myself,” says Drake who brought his son on the stage.
Throughout the Sunday event, The Weeknd received ten prizes. DaBaby came in second with 11 nominations across nine categories.
In the Top Artist category, Taylor Swift gave The Weeknd a fight for his money, but the “Save the Tears” singer, 31, took home the award. The 31-year-old singer was also nominated for Top Female Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, and Top Billboard 200 Album for Folklore, winning two of the four categories.
