Rod Wave credits rap music for saving his life as Nostalgia goes number 1.

Rod Wave continued his Billboard domination as his latest album “Nostalgia” earned him another number 1 debut on the charts. The new album moved 137,000 equivalent album units earned in the US for the week ending Sept. 21, as per Luminate.

Following the success, the rapper reflects on rap music saving his life. “I don’t know, man… I just feel so blessed to be in this position. So thankful,” he said. “This rap sh-t saved my f–king life. Y’all don’t understand. I been doing this sh-t since a teenager, boy. Since I was ’bout 18 I been doing this sh-t.”

He continued, “I seen so much sh-t. I don’t even remember what it feel like not being a rapper, you know what I’m saying? Thank y’all, man. For real.”

Nostalgia earned 187.51 million on-demand official streams for 18 songs, which is the third-largest debut streaming week for an R&B/hip-hop album in the US in 2023. This is Rod Wave’s third consecutive number 1 album and in consecutive years. He is now the only rapper with a #1 album in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Nostalgia is now his 6th top-10 charting project on Billboard.
