Redman name drops Eminem, Dr. Dre, and more on the new track “80 Barz”.
Last night, Redman and Method Man went head to head in a verzuz battle which was titled “How High” on the occasion of 4/20. Along with the Verzuz battle, Redman also dropped the music video for his new track called “80 Barz“, where he named dropped a lot of rappers including Eminem, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, Wu-Tang Clan, Erykah Badu, and more.
The dramatic video for Redman’s track “80 Bars,” which was released last week, features even more blatant parallels to Eminem’s career.
The Newark legend raps, “Hungry like Em before Doc Dre produced him, The straitjacket I had on was loose, And now I bodybag any rap ni**a that suits him.” During his Verzuz battle against Method Man, Redman also wore a t-shirt that had an Em Quote on it.
According to Eminem’s recent tweet, he was aware of the situation as well. Slim Shady uploaded Redman’s new song “80 Barz” on Thursday (April 22), writing in the caption, “It goes Reggie…,” a reference to the black t-shirt Redman was wearing during their performance that read, “It Goes Reggie, JAY-Z, Tupac & Biggie.”
Eminem and Redman collaborated on the song “Off The Wall” in 2000, which was featured on the official soundtrack for Eddie Murphy’s film Nutty Professor II: The Klumps. Shady also mentions Redman as one of his favourite rappers on a regular basis. Eminem, Lil Wayne, JAY-Z, and 2Pac were among the Wu-Tang Clan affiliate’s top recommendations for best MCs when YouTuber NoLifeShaq asked him in June 2020.
Along with the release of his new track, Redman also revealed that his second studio album, Muddy Waters 2, will be out this summer. “It doesn’t seem like a collaboration working with RIV MUSIC,” Redman stated in a news statement. He went on: It’s definitely a family at this point. I can appreciate that they understand hip hop, the authenticity of it, quality control, and most importantly that they are fans of it. They know their stuff and it felt right jumping back with not just this track that I’ve briefly been sitting on, but Muddy Waters 2 as well.
