On this day in 2011, Lil Wayne dropped his critically acclaimed ninth studio album “Tha Carter IV“, the fourth installment of the series. The project was dropped on August 29, 2011, through Young Money Entertainment, Cash Money Records, and Universal Republic Records. The album featured guest appearances from Bruno Mars, Birdman, Rick Ross, Drake, T-Pain, John Legend, Jadakiss, Busta Rhymes, and more.
Tha Carter IV shattered the iTunes record established by Watch the Throne with 300,000 downloads in its first four days online. Tha Carter IV opened at number one on the Billboard 200 list in the United States, selling 964,000 copies in its first week. It sold the most albums in its first week since Lady Gaga’s Born This Way. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the album five times platinum for combined sales and album-equivalent units of over five million units in the United States.

The album earned Lil Wayne his third number-one debut, as “Tha Carter IV” topped the US Billboard 200 chart with first-week sales of 964,000 copies. The album featured songs like “How To Love”, “Mirror”, “She Will”, “6 Foot 7 Foot” and more. Last year, the album was certified five-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
To Celebrate the 10th anniversary, Lil Wayne dropped the expanded version of the album with fan-favorite bonus tracks “Up Up And Away,” “NovaCane” and “I Got Some Money On Me”.
