Kanye West Wins Grammys For Best Rap Song & Best Melodic Rap Performance

Kanye West wins two more Grammys this year.

Following a delay of about two months, this year’s 64th annual Grammy Awards is taking place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Kanye West, who was recently removed from the performers line up over his disturbing “Online Behavior”, wins the trophy in a couple of categories.

The rapper won the Grammys for his Jay-Z collaboration “Jail” in the Best Rap Song category. The song appeared on his last year’s album “DONDA“, which was also nominated for album of the year and best rap album. The GOOD Music boss also takes home a Grammy for The Weeknd and Lil Baby assisted “Hurricane” in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category. The song was one of the fan-favourite off the album. Kanye West has now tied with Jay-Z for the rapper with most Grammy Awards, 24 each.

The famed producer-rapper-mogul’s 24th Grammy triumph comes after an astonishing 80 nominations. Previous accolades include Best Rap Album for The College Dropout, Late Registration, Graduation, and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, as well as Best Rap Song for “Jesus Walks,” “Diamonds From Sierra Leone,” “Good Life,” “Run This Town,” “All of the Lights,” and “Ni**as in Paris.”

“Hurricane” beat “Pride Is the Devil” (by J. Cole and Lil Baby), “Need to Know” (Doja Cat), “Industry Baby” (Lil Nas X with Jack Harlow), and “WUSYANAME” (Tyler, The Creator featuring YoungBoy Never Broke Again and Ty Dolla $ign) in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category. “My Life” (J. Cole starring 21 Savage and Morray), “Bath Salts” (DMX featuring JAY-Z and Nas), “Best Friend” (Saweetie Featuring Doja Cat), and “Family Ties” were the other Best Rap Song nominations (Baby Keem Featuring Kendrick Lamar).

Since his 2004 debut album College Dropout, West had won 22 Grammys as of the start of the day. This year, he was up for five trophies, including Album of the Year, Best Rap Album, and Best Rap Song. He won for Best Rap Song (“Jail”), although Tyler, the Creator won for Best Rap Album, and Jon Batiste won for Album of the Year.

Kanye West’s certified platinum album dropped on August 29, 2021, with guest appearances from Playboi Carti, Chris Brown, DaBaby, Vory, Marilyn Manson and more. It topped the Billboard 200, and became his 10th consecutive chart-topper, tying the record set by Eminem.
