After getting dropped from music festivals, DaBaby apologizes to LGBTQ+ community for the homophobic rant.
After his controversial homophobic speech on July 25th Rolling Loud set in Miami, DaBaby gets a lot of flak on social media, which resulted in getting dropped from multiple music festivals. After Lollapalooza 2021, festivals like Governors Ball and Day N Vegas also decided to remove the Cleveland rapper from their upcoming lineup. However, DaBaby who was taking the situation lightly last week finally decided to offer a formal apology to the LGBTQ+ community for his homophobic rant.
DaBaby made homophobic and sexist insults to members of the LGBTQ community, as well as people living with HIV/AIDS, while performing at Rolling Loud last month. On the premise that they were neither gay men or HIV/AIDS patients, he encouraged everyone to raise their cellphone lights, incorrectly asserting that the sickness would “kill you in two to three weeks.”
“Social media moves so fast that people want to demolish you before you even have the opportunity to grow, educate, and learn from your mistakes,” Dababy wrote on his IG. “As a man who has had to make his own way from very difficult circumstances, having people I know publicly working against me— knowing that what I needed was education on these topics and guidance— has been challenging. I appreciate the many people who came to me with kindness, who reached out to me privately to offer wisdom, education, and resources. That’s what I needed and it was received.”
“I want to apologize to the LGBTQ+ community for the hurtful and triggering comments I made. Again, I apologize for my misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS and I know education on this is important. Love to all. God bless.”
