Busta Rhymes reveals the rappers he would love to go against in a Verzuz Battle.
The legendary Busta Rhymes recently released his 10th studio album ‘ELE 2: The Wrath of God‘ and for the promo run, he sat down with Complex’s Speedy Morman for a new interview. On the show, Busta Rhymes talks about T.I. declining his challenger of a Verzuz battle and said that he isn’t upset about it.
“These are all glorious moments,” says Busta Rhymes. “We’re celebrating each other and having fun and we getting the opportunity to show some competitive shit. The nature of what this culture has been built on from the very beginning is to be competitive, whether respectfully competitive or disrespectfully competitive. But just for the record, I never asked to do a Verzuz with T.I. This was presented to me by Joe Crack.”
Then the host asked him about who would he love to do a Verzuz Battle with, then he mentioned some of his favorite rappers like Eminem, Jay-Z, and Lil Wayne. “I don’t want to do no corny Verzuz,” says Busta. “I wouldn’t do one with anyone whose catalog isn’t crazy. I would love to do a Verzuz with somebody I’m a fan of, I would love to do a Verzuz battle with Eminem, I would love to do a Verzuz with Lil Wayne. I would love to do a Verzuz with Hov. I wouldn’t mind doing a Verzuz against two artists at the same time. I actually presented that before T.I. started talking all that.”
He went on to say that his top three choices are Eminem, Lil Wayne, and Jay-Z, but he’s open to taking on two artists at once. Back in high school, when the two attended George Westinghouse Career And Technical Education High School in Brooklyn, Busta had already battled (and sadly lost to) Hov in rap battles. He’s now prepared for their long-awaited showdown.
“Ultimately, Hov got the best of the battle in that moment,” he recalled earlier this month on the 85 South Show. “I was just starting to figure out how to master my fascination with the speed rap. He was already on it. He was doing it at an incredible level of skillset. … Me, at that point, with my competitive a–, I always wanted to have my rematch. It didn’t happen which was fine because I ended up getting my skillset developed to the point where I don’t think nobody want to f— with a n—a now.”
T.I. first denied a feud with Busta due to a generational divide, but in an Instagram Live video, he praised him as “one of the most phenomenal talents of our time.” On his own IG Live video, Busta responded to Tip’s claims, saying that Fat Joe was the one who first suggested their Verzuz and that if it happened, “I’mma bust your a— at any point in time.”
What do you think about Busta Rhymes’s chances against these greats of Hip-Hop?
