The next segment of the VERZUZ battle announced, will be between Big Daddy Kane and KRS-One.
After last month’s star-studded event between Ja Rule and Fat Joe at Madison Square Garden, the next VERZUZ battle for this month has been announced. VERZUZ creators Swizz Beatz and Timbaland had announced that the legendary Big Daddy Kane and KRS-One will take on each other in a couple of weeks on October 17th at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn.
“BIG DADDY KANE vs KRS-ONE!! I hope you’re ready!!! This one is for Hip-Hop!!! See you on the 17th,” stated the official VERZUZ handle. Fat Joe, the most recent VERZUZ participant reacted to the news with, “Ooohhhhhh ssshhhiiittt” in the comment section.
This is the third event in a row honoring East Coast rappers (and the 35th overall), yet we’ve scarcely seen any musicians from the West Coast (you guys need to make DJ Quik vs. Daz Dillinger a reality ASAP) or the South, and we’ve had precisely zero performers from the Midwest. And, despite the fact that R&B artists have easily provided some of the most memorable moments in Verzuz history—Brandy spilling the tea on Monica and putting her hands on her, Steve Harvey torturing us with childhood stories we didn’t ask for, Ashanti putting Keyshia Cole in her place—they’ve barely graced the stage.
Both the latest VERZUZ names are New York City-born and started their careers around the same time in the 1980s so it will be a treat for the older hip-hop followers, as well the other artists from the 80s and 90s.
A few months back, Big Daddy Kane appeared on The Breakfast Club, where he named KRS One as his top 3 from his era, along with himself and Rakim. Kane is also working on his new Netflix Documentary “Paragraphs I Manifest“, for which he did interviews with the likes of Eminem, Jay-Z, J. Cole, and also his VERZUZ opponent KRS-One.
