Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar win big at Grammys 2023.
The 65th annual Grammy Awards took place tonight at Crypto Arena in Los Angeles, California, which is hosted by Trevor Noah. Beyonce was the most nominated artist this year with 9 nominations, and she made history by winning multiple honours.
Queen Bey won Best dance/electronic album for “Renaissance“, Best R&B song for “Cuff It”, Best dance/electronic recording for “Break My Soul”, and Best traditional R&B performance for “Plastic Off the Sofa”. Beyonce has now broken the record of most Grammy Wins by any artist, with 32 wins.
Lizzo won the highest honour of the night Record of the year with “About Damn Time”. At the Record of the Year Awards, Lizzo gave an emotional speech as she dedicated her award to the late legendary musician, Prince. She mentioned that she felt “unexpectedly” blessed to win the award and shared how Prince’s loss had a profound impact on her life. She explained that after his death, she had dedicated herself to spreading positivity and happiness through her music, even though her songs were not popular when she first started her career ” “I like to believe that not only can people do good, but we just are good. We are good inherently.”
She also gave a shout-out to Beyoncé, who has been a major source of inspiration for her. She reminisced about skipping school in the fifth grade to see Beyoncé perform, which made her realize her own musical aspirations.
Harry Styles took home the honour of Album of the year with his latest project “Harry’s House”, while the song of the year was given to Bonnie Raitt’s “Just Like That”. Taylor Swift won the honour in the Best Music Video category for her visual “All Too Well: The Short Film.”
